Natural Zing offers Premium Raw Certified Organic Agave Nectar from mature plants.

The agave (uh-gah-vay) plant has long been cultivated in hilly, semi-arid soils of Mexico. Its fleshy leaves cover the pineapple-shaped heart of the plant, which contain a sweet sticky juice. Ancient Mexicans considered the plan to be sacred. They believed the liquid from the plant purified the body and soul. When the Spanish arrived, they took the juices from the agave and fermented them, leading to the drink we now call tequila.

Premium agave nectar or syrup must be taken from mature plants at least eight years old, eight times around the sun. No enzymes process is needed when mature plants are used. Some raw agave producers use immature plants and perform an enzyme process to eliminate toxins that can exist in the younger plants. Nature is telling us not to eat the younger plants.

Now there is a more interesting use for this historic plant than brewing tequila. Agave syrup (or nectar) is about 70% fructose. It recently has come in use as a sweetener. It has low glycemic level and is a delicious and safe alternative to table sugar. Unlike the crystalline form of fructose that is refined primarily from corn, agave syrup is fructose in its natural form. This nectar does not contain processing chemicals. Even better, because fructose is sweeter than table sugar, less is needed in your recipes. It can be most useful for people who are diabetic, have insulin resistance (Syndrome X), or are simply watching their carbohydrate intake.

  • Use 25% less of this nectar than you would use of table sugar. 3/4 cup of agave nector should equal 1 cup of table sugar.

  • When substituting this sweetener in recipes, reduce our liquid slightly. Sometimes as much as 1/3 less.

  • Reduce your oven temperature by 25 degrees (if you're going to cook with this nectar which we do not recommend).

  • The glycemic index of agave nectar is low.

  • As a food exchange, a one-teaspoon serving of agave nectar equals a free food. Two servings or two teaspons equals 1/2 carbohydrate exchange.
  • The agave nector offered by Natural Zing is raw - it has never been cooked or exposed to temperatures over 110 degrees (other Agave nectar manufacturers cook the syrup up to 140 degrees).

  • The agave nectar offered by Natural Zing is Certified Organic by Quality Assurance International and it's also Kosher.

Remember to ask for and get premium agave nectar taken from mature plants at least eight years old, eight times around the sun. Make sure the source has not used and enzyme process if you want the highest quality.
